A typical day begins with the dogs cast off for the mornings hunt. Hard hunting, well trained, they flow and turn in the field in front of the hunters. Without warning one spins to a stop and freezes into a statue. He takes two steps and the tail is quivering, every muscle taut, eyes locked forward, his body language is telling you the bird is right there! As you walk to the dog the excitement and anticipation builds, keeping an eye out for a wild flush, you move to the front of the dog. Two steps in front of the dog the cover is moving, and then the bird is flushing, you didn't even see him! With a krk, krk, krk, he is up and moving over and away, the gun coming up, the bead moving from the tail to the front, the shot and again, and then tumbling cartwheels in the air, he is falling. At the sound of the shot the dog is out for the retrieve. A couple of sniffs, he pounces on the bird, lifting the bird in his mouth he prances all the way back, and gives up his bird, knowing that this is only the first of a full day. As you smooth the feathers and look at the length of tail and the length of spurs, you realize that this is living the high life, the smell of gunpowder and the heft of a mature rooster in hand, knowing that there is still much more to come...
